About Us

Greasbys are a well-known and recognised firm of Public Auctioneers based in South London that was established in 1919 by Henrietta Greasby that we are very pleased to have celebrated its centenary in 2019.

We have operated from the original site since that date. The original saleroom was stables that were demolished some forty years ago and replaced by a two story building affording more space to keep astride of the business climate.

The firm was incorporated in 1958 and remained with the Greasby family until 1968, it was at that point it was purchased by Tom Crow who was the present owner’s father. He built on the existing company taking it to greater levels. The present Managing Director Christine Sachett started working with her father in the early seventies at root level and worked her way through the company and on her father’s retirement in 1987 she assumed overall control in the running of the business. In 1989 she inherited her father’s shares making her the Principle Owner, Auctioneer and Valuer supported by John Shadbolt the Auction manager.

Auctions are held fortnightly and catalogues are available by subscription and also here on our Catalogue page.

Greasbys are particularly concerned to achieve the best possible results for their clients and probably uniquely amongst auctioneers informs and advises prospective buyers of forthcoming lots which will be of interest. The Company has a devoted core of regular buyers from many areas of trade and commerce who support its sales.

Our experienced staff will catalogue and collate your items in order to achieve the best possible return. We produce a detailed catalogue and paper trail for the ease of our Vendor’s. Following the auction again electronically a Vendor Account is sent, this will show the result for each lot number sold individually, it will also display the total result and any costs incurred in connection with the service provided. Where multiple units are cleared for the same client a Vendor reference is set up individually to enable you to identify and account for.
