Since 1919, Greasbys has proudly served South London as a renowned public auctioneer. Founded by Henrietta Greasby, the firm recently celebrated its centenary, marking over a hundred years of dedicated service from its original location. Originally housed in converted stables, the saleroom was upgraded to a two-story building about 40 years ago, allowing the business to evolve with the times.

Incorporated in 1958, Greasbys remained under family ownership until 1968, when Tom Crow, the father of the current Managing Director, Christine Sachett, acquired the company. Under Tom’s leadership, the firm reached new heights, and Christine joined the business in the early 1970s, working her way up from the ground floor. Upon Tom’s retirement in 1987, Christine took over as Managing Director, and in 1989, she inherited her father’s shares, becoming the Principal Owner, Auctioneer, and Valuer. She continues to lead the company with the support of John Shadbolt, the Auction Manager.

Greasbys holds auctions every fortnight, with catalogues available via subscription or directly on our website. As a firm committed to securing the best possible outcomes for clients, Greasbys is unique in its approach, advising buyers on upcoming lots of interest. Our loyal client base includes both seasoned buyers and new bidders from a wide range of industries, including trade, commerce, local authorities, and various HM departments.

Each auction is supported by a detailed catalogue and clear communication, with Vendor Reserve Notices and post-auction Vendor Accounts electronically sent to ensure transparency and ease of tracking. For clients with bulk clearances, we create tailored references to help manage and account for multiple lots. Payment is issued promptly within 21 days of the auction, and our friendly staff are always available to assist with any queries.

In addition to auctions, Greasbys offers comprehensive clearance services. Whether you need a property cleared or storage units emptied, we tailor our approach to your specific needs.
